To Be Taught, If Fortunate

Despite hearing very good things about Becky Chambers on a regular basis, this was the first book of hers I have read; a mistake that I will have to soon correct. To Be Taught, If Fortunate has, for me at least, everything you need from science fiction: interstellar exploration, scientific research, strange alien ecosystems, existential questions, and the odd reminder of the vulnerability of life in environments it never evolved to live in. There's generally something that I don't like about even the best written books, but the only thing I could fault here is that it wasn't long enough.

Highly, highly recommended. The best sci-fi book I've read in a while.
